Artist Brush Manufacturer in India

A brush manufacturer, not a reseller

Stationerie makes the brushes it sells. Every brush carrying our name is built in our own Kolkata workshop by a team of more than 60 artisan brushmakers, who between them produce around five lakh brushes a month. Nothing is imported, rebadged or drop-shipped.

Handmade brushmaking is still bench work. Hair is dressed and cupped by hand, the belly is set by hand, the ferrule is crimped and the handle finished one brush at a time. Buying from the workshop means paying for the brush rather than for three layers of distribution.

What we manufacture

Synthetic filament brushes

Kolinsky-type and squirrel-type synthetic brushes made on imported German filament. They hold a sharp point, spring back cleanly and contain no animal hair. Used for watercolour, gouache, acrylic, inks and fine detail work.

Natural hair brushes

Chungking hog bristle for oil and heavy-bodied acrylic, where stiffness and mark-holding matter, and soft white goat for mops, washes and hake shapes that need to carry a large load of water or colour.

Shapes and sizes

Round, liner, rigger and ultra-liner; flat, filbert, angular and blender; fan; mop; wash and hake; petal, calligraphy and stencil. Sizes run from 10/0 detail brushes up to wide flats and hakes measured in inches.
