Paper Cutter

Paper Cutters & Trimmers

A guillotine or rotary trimmer beats a knife and steel rule for one reason: it registers the sheet against a fixed edge, so every cut is square and repeatable. That matters most when you are trimming a mount, squaring a watercolour block sheet after tearing it off, or cutting a run of identical cards. A craft knife gives you more control on curves and card, but it will never give you twenty identical A5 pieces.

What to look for

Check the cutting length against the largest sheet you actually work with — a 12 inch bed handles A4 comfortably and A3 only if you cut in two passes. A gridded base and a clamping arm are worth more than blade sharpness alone, because paper shifting under the blade is what causes a skewed cut. Rotary blades suit thin paper and photo stock; straight guillotine blades bite better on card and mount board.

The current range is the Brustro Trim Master portable A4 cutter. For hand cutting and mount work, see artist tools and auxiliaries, and browse papers and pads for sheets to trim.
