Brush Holders and Cleaners

A brush almost never wears out at the tip. It dies at the ferrule, where paint dries in the heel, splays the hairs and destroys the point permanently. Everything in this collection exists to prevent that.

Storage

Brush rolls and bamboo mats let air circulate while holding the brushes flat, which is what you want for travel and for anything with a fine point. Standing brushes bristle-up in a jar is fine for storage and fatal during a session, since water wicks into the ferrule. Never leave a brush resting on its tip in water.

Cleaning

Rinse in the direction of the hairs, work soap into the heel with your palm rather than the tip, and reshape the point while wet. Conditioning cleaners lift dried acrylic without stripping natural hair; solvent alone will do the job but leaves the hair brittle.
