Chitrapat Handmade Paper

Chitrapat is Indian-made 100% cotton watercolour paper, mould-made with deckled edges and internally sized so it takes repeated washes without pilling or cockling badly. It is the most credible domestic answer to imported cotton sheets: the same rag content at a fraction of the landed price, which matters when a single imported full sheet can cost more than an afternoon's painting.

What to expect

We stock Chitrapat in cold press and rough surfaces across the common weights, in pads and loose sheets. The rough surface has a pronounced tooth that granulating pigments settle into well. The cold press is the safer all-rounder for detail work and repeated layering.
