Winsor & Newton Oil Painting Mediums in India
Every oil medium is doing one of three jobs: changing how fast the paint dries, changing how it flows, or changing the final sheen. Liquin speeds drying and thins without weakening the film. Linseed oil slows drying and adds gloss but yellows over time. Stand oil levels brushmarks flat and is the slowest of the lot.
Fat over lean, in practice
Each layer must contain more oil than the one beneath it, or the upper layer dries first, shrinks and cracks. So start thinned with solvent, then add progressively more medium as you build up. If you only buy one bottle, make it Liquin Original: it covers most of the range without the yellowing risk of straight linseed.
Complete the setup
Use with oil colours, clean with artist turpentine, and finish with a varnish only once the surface is properly dry. Browse all artist mediums or the full Winsor & Newton range.
