Nitram Charcoal
Nitram charcoal in India
Nitram is a Canadian charcoal maker. Its sticks are graded from hard to extra soft, so you can choose the exact darkness and edge you want, and the range is widely used in atelier and academic drawing programmes. Stationerie stocks the core stick range, the large-format batons, liquid and powdered charcoal, holders and accessories.
Stick charcoal by grade
The square 5mm Académie Fusains come in three grades: H hard for fine lines and lighter marks, HB medium for everyday sketching, and B soft for dark tones. For round extra-soft sticks, choose Petits Bâtons 6mm, Bâtons Moyens 8mm or Bâtons Épais 12mm. Not sure where to start? Try the 8-stick assorted pack or the Starter Kit.
Large-format batons and blocks
For big, expressive drawings: the Demi Bâton de Saule 25mm, the Maxi Bâton de Saule 50mm and the Bloc de Saule rectangular block, all extra soft.
Liquid, aquarelle and powdered charcoal
Liquid Charcoal 50ml is water-soluble and works neat or diluted. Fusain Aquarelle is charcoal watercolour in a 50g tin, activated with water. Extra Fine Powdered Charcoal 175g lays broad tonal grounds with a brush or blending tool.
Holders and accessories
The Bâton 2.0 holder set takes 4mm sticks, with Mignonette charcoal refills and 3B graphite refills sold separately. The Stylus holder set grips 6mm charcoal, and the Sharpening Bloc (with replacement pads) shapes sticks to a point or chisel edge.
